Barrack my world. [Nov. 8th, 2009|02:40 pm]

[Current Mood | amused]

I have now had ANOTHER dream about Barrack Obama. I can see this is going the same route as the Clinton Years. I used to dream about him allll the time.

If you'll remember, a couple of months ago, I dreamed that he and I slept together in a governmental fraternity house.

This one was not quite so racy. [info]headbanger118 and I were attending a high school band performance...um, at a high school. (An undisclosed location?) Obama just sits down in the row in front of us, and I'm all "OMG OMG OMG OMG!!" So [info]headbanger118 says "well, TALK to him!" So I did. We were chit-chatting, totally blowing off the performance, and he was just so friendly. But then he started quizzing me about political history and I got some answers wrong, making me feel like a big dummy. I then switched the topic of conversation to music, and we had a blast. Finally the performance was over and we got up to mill around. I saw Michelle, so I went running up to give her a big hug. She was all "WTF are you doing, girl?" and very stiff when I hugged her. Maybe she didn't want a hug. Or maybe she knew I'd slept with her man. Either way, she was having none of it and basically left me standing there. De-NIED.

So I found Barry (we were on a major first-name basis by this time) again, and we shot the breeze some more. I have no idea where [info]headbanger118 had gone by this time. She'd probably gotten exasperated and left me. I promised I'd come to all his future speaking engagements (as IF!) and he promised to remember me. I think we might have done some sort of secret handshake at that point.

Not a bad dream at all, except for being dissed by Michelle. Sure beats the dream I had earlier, in which I'd gotten a DUI and had to be bailed out by my mom.

We really honestly did luck out in the neighbour department. Reagan, Tim and I were picking up leaves and sweeping the back patio, after Tim mowed the front yard, and Billy passed two more rakes over the fence for us. Awesome.

Then I was talking to our other neighbour, on the other side, and she told us that these two dead bushes in the back yard were originally in the front yard, and she knew they wouldn't make it. I said that we'd be taking them down, and her son (13) said he wanted to chop them with an ax. Hell yeah! Hahah, well, next thing I see, her husband is on the ground sawing them, and the son is chopping branches. Awesome.

I just read Reagan the first two chapters of Little House in the Big Woods. She was so interested and asked a ton of questions. Lots of hunting talk, a whole world that we just can't imagine. It makes me feel all warm and squishy to read them to her, my dad read the entire series to us four kids a few times. He always cried when Jack the dog died.

I love this stuff. I love yard work with my family. I love reading together, snuggled under a warm blanket. I love dinners together and a clean kitchen. These are the things that I appreciate and the things that make the not so great stuff easier to deal with.

Wishing you the best. [Nov. 7th, 2009|04:28 pm]

seventyeleventy
Today, before going into my usual ranty drivel, I'd like to take a moment and wish the best for Alicia Rose Martinez. While driving up from Colorado Springs to Denver for a meeting with me, she happened to get into a very serious accident that totaled her car. Fortunately she is alright, but I have no other details other than that. I hope with all of my heart that she is well.

Wow.

I don't know quite how to get back into all the other things that I was supposed to write about, but here's an attempt at it.

In less serious news, I have begun growing a moustache for MO-VEMBER. This event spans the entire month and is an attempt to document the growth of said moustache by any number of participants who agree with it, and with their participation, raise donations for testicular cancer research. If you would like to donate to the cause, here's a link:

The picture leads into another topic that I'd like to share... See that little panda dude on my shoulder? I drew that. Currently, I have been working with Marques White to develop a clothing line called "Burning Bamboo", which specializes in 100% organic bamboo clothing and sustainable products. Not only is the shirt quality RIDICULOUSLY comfortable, but it's good for the environment, too. Bamboo is hypoallergenic and can grow at up to one metre per day. Bamboo ALSO absorbs 35% more carbon dioxide than trees of the same stand. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo_textiles

If you're interested in purchasing a T-shirt or hemp tote bag, email Marques White (mj_white09@yahoo.com) for details on sizes, styles and colors. We're just starting up so we don't quite have every size of every color printed up, but I'm certain that if you have a request of one of the colors or styles we have available, he can order your size to be printed. Support the cause, and I'll keep everyone updated as to the progress. I see big things coming with this idea.

MORE NEWS: Since I rarely update this thing anymore, it seems like my entries end up being miles in length. But in any case, here is the latest painting finished in my studio. The original piece it was created upon was actually found in a back alleyway of framed batik fabric with flowers and butterflies. I of course decided that I would create something that would be unregocnizable from the original piece, so I just let my sharpie and paint do the rest!

Also, hard at work on my comic book, I have decided to share a page just to record the difference between the original drawn page (pencils by Davis) and my digital edits on the page.

It's only one of the frames, but you catch my drift.

Due out on December 1st, the sixth issue of Coffeestain Comicks!

Now I must get some work done before we leave to see Regina Spektor!

Oh happy day...

I was telling Reagan about some books written about my family. One is The Medicine Maid, written by my great great grandmother (I believe that is how many greats..), and the second is The Hooples of Hoople Creek.

The first is a very interesting read about the five children being kidnapped by first nation people, the parents were killed, house set on fire, baby killed, but the kids were raised by the native people and my great great great great whatever grandmother was taught basically to be a herbalist. She was eventually reunited with her one brother who was raised nearby.

The second is interesting because I believe the last person written in the genealogy in the book is my dad. In our copy, my parents penciled in my name under his. :D

I decided to google the books and show Reagan, and I found someone selling a copy, but the funny thing is that the person selling it is from my home town! The books aren't based in BC, they are from the North/East of the USA and Ontario/Quebec area. I just find it really odd that the one copy I could find was there.. makes me wonder if maybe my great-aunt's copy was given to the bookstore or something, when she died.

I emailed him. :)

what a day! [Oct. 30th, 2009|11:46 pm]

Got up, drove Tim to work (almost an hour round trip), then picked Amy up, drove her to her eye specialist. Went grocery shopping, went back and picked Amy up, drove her to Safeway, drove her to Costco. Came home, put away groceries, put hot rollers in my hair, packed a picnic lunch and jumped in the car to go get Reagan.

Ended up at her school half an hour early, traffic was really light today. Pulled the rollers out of my hair, yes, I drove with them in. Had awesome curls. Got random compliments from other parents picking their kids up.

Reagan had an awesome week at school. She finished all her homework, finished most of her school work during school hours, listened, even wore jewelry today without fiddling with it and distracting herself all day. I told her I'd hem her "sparkly jeans" for her, I've been saving them for a reward for a good week.

Came home, custom fit Tim's vampire fangs, did Reagan's hair, did my hair, did my makeup, did Reagan's "makeup" (sparkly, almost clear, eyeshadow), put on my false eyelashes, black dress, fishnet stockings, 5" stilettos that have never been worn out of the bedroom till tonight.. my black lace fingerless gloves, clunky black jewelry, royal blue cape. I was hot, and I rarely think I'm hot.

Reagan was beside herself. She was almost speechless, then told me I was so "fashionable" and that my dress was "so sassy she couldn't handle it". She said she had never seen me looking like that. She was so adorable and it totally bumped up my self esteem. Tim was pretty into it too. Put my fangs in and was ready to go!

Fun party. Tons of food, loads of people, everyone looked great, had fun. I was told that I made a very good vampire. Hilarious since I'm so not a vampire person. Had lots of cleavage. The kids were wild, but fun. Kim's boys were both snuggling with me and giving me hugs, they are so sweet. Made a few new friends. Had such an excellent night. Love these friends.

Came home and made out with my husband on the couch and then had crazy wild amazingly awesome sex. Love that man so much.

Tomorrow will be cleaning, cleaning, cleaning since it's Hallowe'en and we have guests.

I think I need to go to bed!

This is one of my favorite pictures of Oreo. She looks like she's doing an ad for Excedrin or something. I think that's pretty much how we both felt over her whole ordeal being "lost."

She finally came out from behind the bed, around 11 last night and ate some cat treats. I put down a can of food just for her and she scarfed almost the whole thing down. She's come out very cautiously a few times and I've gotten to pet her a bit, but I think it may be a while before she totally gets over the trauma. The other cats kept sniffing her like "where have YOU been?"

I'm still so happy to have my little floofball home!!!!

[Current Music |"Suedehead" - Morrissey]

OREO IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The little rat had crawled down through the dryer vent (which is now securely closed off and cat-proof) and gotten up underneath the house. When we noticed that it was loose, ("we" being my mom, dad and I), that was a thought, but it just didn't seem plausible to me. But today, dad and I got into the crawlspace with a flashlight to explore. I thought I heard a very faint "mew", but was afraid to hope. Then I saw her little white fluff and realized she was indeed down there and very much alive.

She smells horrible and is quite dirty and freaked out, but otherwise, she's just fine. She is currently holed up behind my bed and probably won't come out for a day or so. I tried offering her some food, but she was much more interested in hiding for the time being, which is fine. I'm just so happy to have her home.

When I realized she was there, I started hyperventilating and could not get a breath, but I finally got it together, grabbed the cat carrier and went after her. She led us on quite the wild goose chase going from one end of the house to the other. She'd made a little nest out of insulation and had presumably been sleeping there for the last two nights. There was also a little puddle of water, so at least she had something to drink.

I cannot reasonably express the relief that I feel, although I won't soon forget it, because I have the battle scars to prove my efforts. She scratched me almost from head to toe when I was trying to hang onto her and get her into the carrier. I've got a gash on my cheek that goes all the way to my neck, my wrists, hands and fingers are totally shredded and another huge slash on my thigh where she actually ripped my jeans with her claws. Talk about one little angry girl, but hey, at least she's still got her spunk and sass!

Oreo snuggles up with me in bed every morning. She comes to my bedroom at about 4am and gets under the covers against my tummy or back and we sleep like that until about 6 or 7 am, when she wakes me up to eat breakfast. That has been our routine for years, and I have never had another kitty who snugs under the covers like that. She's always liked to be under things (like, oh...HOUSES, perhaps.) I was thinking today how she is my special little snugging kitty and how warm she keeps me on cold mornings. I am at a loss for words to express how very happy I am to have my precious little girl back with me!

Thank you all for your happy, positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes and hope. Evidently she's got a guardian angel kitty
