A classmate recently contacted me and told me about a murder that occurred near my hometown. While I didn't know the teen who was fatally shot, I grew up with the boy's father. That very same classmate contacted me again this weekend.

I can still remember riding my bike past the soccer field and being told that my friend had been shot at the Double R Bar the night before. The legal drinking age at the time was 18 in Wisconsin. Apparently, their was a fight over a firearm and one thing lead to another.
There was another murder at that very same bar recently. Another classmate of mine was killed. The Upper Peninsula is a beautiful place from a scenic perspective, but there's something that's not quite right about the place. There's something not quite right about the story of the stabbing either. Rather than recap, I'll just cut & paste was was shared with me.
"Hi Kip, don't know if you heard yet, but do you remember Jeff Y? He was fatally stabbed last night at Saloon #2 (the old Double R). Jeff was dating Tina B & was there with her. Tina had married this guy from Jamaica (Ian) years back so he could get his green card-once he got it they divorced. Jeff was married to a girl named Kelly, they also got divorced. Jeff was dating Tina and his ex ended up dating Tina's ex Ian. Kelly & Ian started getting into it with Tina at the bar, and Ian punched Tina in the face. Jeff jumped off his bar stool to defend her and Ian pulled a knife on him. God, the B's just lost Tony a month ago, now this. Pretty unreal...gonna miss him, he was always such a scrapper but never deserved anything like this." |
